Connected PPE can shorten the path to help –Båstadgruppenlaunches ConnectedHead-to-Toe
In 2023, 2.82 million non-fatal workplace accidentsresulting in at least four calendar days of absence from work were recorded in the EU. Båstadgruppen is now integrating connected technology into safety helmets, workwear trousers and safety footwear. Through its Guardio, Top Swede and Monitor brands, the Group can offer Connected solutions from head-to-toe – with the aim of making PPE a more active part of workplace safety.
“Now we are taking the next step in the development from traditional personal protective equipment to connected personal safety. We are doing this by adding connected technology to equipment and garments that users already wear,” says Nawar Toma, founder and Category Manager of Guardio, part of Båstadgruppen.
Occupational accidents resulting in sickness absence remain a major challenge. Construction, transport and manufacturing are among the industries most affected.
At the same time, smartphones have become an integral part of everyday life. This creates new opportunities to use digital technology to improve safety at work. By integrating Quin’s safety technology into clothing and equipment that users already wear, Båstadgruppen can make use of technology that is already close at hand – the user’s smartphone – and make personal protective equipment a more active part of workplace safety.
When a serious accident occurs, the time it takes to get help can be critical. WHO uses the term “the golden hour” to describe the first 60 minutes following a traumatic injury, when rapid assessment and care are important for patient outcomes. This is where connected protective equipment can play a new role.
Quin Pod is designed to automatically detect serious events, such as severe impacts and falls, and can then initiate an alert containing information including the user’s location. Quin Tag provides access to the user’s digital Medical ID via a compatible smart device, making important information available when help is needed.
“The future of PPE will not only be about the protective clothing we wear, but also about the role our equipment can play when something happens. When technology can provide support even after an accident has occurred, personal protective equipment takes on a new and more active role in workplace safety,” says Nawar Toma, founder and Category Manager of Guardio, part of Båstadgruppen.
In collaboration with Quin, Båstadgruppen is now expanding its investment in connected safety to more parts of the user’s equipment – from helmets and safety footwear to workwear trousers.
“For us, Connected PPE is not about technology for technology’s sake. What matters is that it can deliver tangible benefits and contribute to a safer working environment,” says Nawar Toma, founder and Category Manager of Guardio, part of Båstadgruppen.
Båstadgruppen already offers Guardio Armet Pro Connected and Monitor ICE Evolution with Quin technology. In October, workwear trousers from Top Swede featuring integrated Quin technology were also launched. This makes Båstadgruppen the first on the market to offer a comprehensive Connected solution from head to toe/head-to-toe.
Quin’s technology is designed to turn traditional personal protective equipment into part of a connected safety solution.
“Connected Head-to-Toe PPE is a major step forward for worker safety. With Quin technology now integrated across head protection, footwear and workwear within Båstadgruppen brands, intelligent safety is no longer limited to a single piece of PPE. Every job is different and so is the protection it demands. Båstadgruppen is leading the way by bringing connected technology across multiple categories of protection, giving workers greater choice in how they benefit from intelligent safety”, says Ani Surabhi, Founder & CEO, Quin.
“As the technology is integrated into more garments, we can begin to see personal equipment as an active part of workplace safety. That is the development we want to help drive,” concludes Nawar Toma.
